Overview
In the Rincon De La Vieja Volcano Hike you will be able to see a large number of fumaroles, bubbling water lagoons, little mud volcanoes and hot springs, the Volcano is located 16 miles North from Liberia. The Volcano is still very active in fact a big percent of the electricity in Costa Rica is produce using the steam coming out from the Volcano Geothermal Energy.
The hike is approximately a two hours and is rigorous but spectacular, starts in a transitional rain forest and as you hike, continues into low wet forest with a lot of vegetation to dry area. There is variety of birds, trees and insect species. The Rincón de la Vieja means The Old Lady’s Corner in Spanish.
